Is non-prenatal yoga safe during pregnancy?

I am taking an Iyengar yoga class (not pre-natal) and recently found out I’m pregnant. Is non-prenatal yoga safe for a normal pregnancy? Any special modifications necessary? I’m 6 weeks pregnant.

“What To Expect When You’re Expecting” says yoga is great for pregnancy, and if you’re not doing prenatal yoga, make your instructor aware of your pregnancy so they can modify any poses that aren’t safe during pregnancy. Example — you shouldn’t be exercising on your back after about 5 months. As long as your instructor is aware of your condition and you don’t have any pregnancy complications, you should be fine. Always check with your doctor first, of course. :)
